Independent Studies Attest to Chiropractic's Effectiveness

For the past century, doctors of chiropractic have offered patients relief from numerous types of health problems. Chiropractic procedure has often been successful where other treatments have failed. In recent years, numerous scientific studies have been conducted in hospitals, universities, and chiropractic clinics throughout the world to determine and record the effectiveness of chiropractic care.

The Manga Report was commissioned by the Ministry of Health in Ontario, Canada. The report reviewed all the international evidence on the management of low back pain and made the following conclusions:
  • There would be highly significant cost savings if more management of low back pain was transferred from physicians to chiropractors.
  • There should be a shift in policy to encourage and prefer chiropractic services for most patients with low back pain.
  • Chiropractic should be fully insured and integrated into the healthcare system.
  • "The overwhelming body of evidence demonstrates that chiropractic management of low back pain is greatly superior to medical management in terms of scientific validity, safety, cost-effectiveness, and patient satisfaction."
A recent clinical practice guideline, published by the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research (AHCPR) of the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services, states that for acute low back problems in adults, "Relief of discomfort can be accomplished most safely with non-prescription medication and/or spinal manipulation". The AHCPR recommendations for treatment of acute low back pain were made after an exhaustive review of over 350 scientific articles on the subject of low back pain. Among these were more than 37 randomized controlled trials of spinal manipulation for low back pain.

RAND, a prestigious non-profit research organization and think tank has completed several large scale studies of chiropractic. The researchers concluded that spinal manipulation has at least short term effectiveness for patients with sub-acute or chronic head pain, neck pain, and tension-type headaches.

Treatment at Banic Chiropractic Clinic
Our visit begins with an in-depth consultation with the doctor. Taking the time to go over your health history and listen to your current concerns is the key to making sure you get the best treatment possible. The physical examination is then performed and includes; computerized postural analysis, joint, muscle, and motion assessments, and nervous system function. Radiographic analysis, x-ray, can often provide extra information that may be vital. Our in-office x-ray makes this step convenient and quick. The above tools help us to determine what is causing your symptoms.

Following the initial examination, you are presented with a complete synopsis of our findings and our recommendations for treatment. Typical treatments may include chiropractic adjustments, massage and trigger point work, stretching, in-office or at home exercise, icing, and rehabilitative traction. Each person receives an individualized plan for care. All care performed at Banic Chiropractic Clinic is evidence based, backed up by numerous studies which support the efficacy.
